J.P. KANMA
We Make Clothes for IRL Memories
We are an upscale genderless fashion brand weaving anime aesthetics with the opulence of the African diaspora.
J.P. KANMA was born from a simple belief: that oversized clothing should fit as oversized on larger frames and be as bold as the person wearing it.
Our Edge: Conversation-starting design, inclusive sizing, and plant-based materials crafted with durability and grace.
The Brand
J.P. KANMA is an independent label blending analog warmth with a touch of whimsy. From the Laali Short Sleeve Shirt to the Lava Lamp Crop Top; each of our designs pay tribute to vintage family portraits, handmade traditions, culture, and community.
Our founder grew up watching anime with her sisters and always loved the rich storytelling found in these shows. She thought: why not take a relic of her childhood and weave it into the bold color and pattern she grew up around in the African diaspora. Every art piece she designed by hand, inspired by the world and memories around her. No AI. Not in the art, not ever.
We drafted our pattern on a plus-size body, with a full bust and full arms. This is where clothes usually fit tight and uncomfortable for our founder, so that is where we started. Most brands take a size medium and make it wider and call it plus-size. We flipped the process, so that oversized clothing actually drapes oversized on us.
Be in community. Be a conversation starter. Be iconic.
Why We Do It
To revive the analog charm and cultural richness of the past, blending 90s anime aesthetics, 70s boldness, and diasporic maximalism into a future of fashion where inclusivity and artistry are inseparable.
We're just getting started.
